Eight Years Ago But “It’s No Less The Pain”
It happened 8yrs ago today. It is hard to believe it’s been so long, yet the images sit clear in our memories and the pain fresh in our hearts.
It feels that way because the infamous acts that took place that day touched us all in one way or another. No matter where or what everyone was doing, it affected us all.
I remember receiving a frantic call from my mother and then seeing it all happen on TV that morning. Soon after, my cousin panicking because she could not get her calls through to a family member working near the Towers.
Today, the country grieves not only for the lives we lost at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and at the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania; but also for the lives of those heroes who selflessly rushed to help.
President Obama said during the memorial from the Pentagon, “united not only in our grief but in our resolve to stand up for the country we love.”
“From this day forward, we will safeguard the memories of those who died by rekindling the spirit of service that lit our city with hope and helped keep us strong,” New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg said at the ceremony.
